Like Lobby cards; Show cards also featured various iconic scenes of the film, or colorful illustrations of the movie title and the names of leading actors and actresses,with a purpose to lure the movie-going public into theaters across the country.
Show cards were much bigger in size and generally 16x22 or 16x24 inches. Earlier showcards of 1940-50's were hand painted and were painted mainly on mount boards. Some very beautiful showcards were produce by Cine Art studio Mumbai, and Kabe Art, Mumbai. One can also find showcards printed on photographic paper and showcards of collage work with high lightings done with hand.
Today Showcards of hindi movies have become a sought after collectible item among movie memorabilia collectors; showcards of some of the landmark movies like Mughal e Azam , Devdas, Kagaz Ke Phool, Pyasa or actors like Dev Anand , Raj Kapoor, Guru Dutt, Amitabh Bachchan and Madhubala command a very high price.
